Ashlea: Photos depicting Professional

Ashlea submitted:

Just wanted to share an photo article I’m sure you’ll have already received. This is Howard Schatz’ images of Female Athlete’s from the HuffingtonPost, originally appearing in his 2002 book, “Athlete”. The article states that the images have become popular again to remind us “the diversity of women’s bodies.” I think seeing these powerful and graceful women’s bodies - real bodies that have been shaped by hard work and determination - makes clear just how different builds are, even among the physically fit. Looking at the line up, I recall some of the drawing tutorials I’ve come across for depicting people of larger size and with different body types. I understand that a female super hero will more than likely be physically fit but even among the physically fit there is great variety as we can see in these photos. I hope these serves as a resource to artists and as inspiration to women and girls to see that there are a variety of shapes even among the physically fit.

I remember linking to this before but not so explicitly.  I think this is a nifty photo spread for people to get an idea for the diversity of (able-bodied*) athletic women’s bodies, so I’m putting up again. :)

*Edit: Apparently in the full spread, there is at least one disabled athlete featured. :)
