Joel Evans: My name is Joel, I’m

My name is Joel, I’m submitting a redraw of Almadora from Depth Fantasia, I believe. I thought the design was really colorful and had a lot of personality, but I wanted a crack at a redraw, to design a heavier suit of armor. I figured that, seeing as how the weapon she’s wielding is so big and heavy, anyone that wields a melee weapon like that is going to need suitable armor when they whiff an attack and have to absorb a few hits.

The original design seemed to be some sort of leather armor with an unprotected chest, so I thickened parts of the armor, and turned most of it into steel plate. I added a breastplate so she isn’t as exposed, with less of her, um, business, hanging out. I liked the headpiece the character wears, and the idea of the character wearing a circlet for a small modicum of head protection, but the original design seemed to maybe(?) be some sort of harness for a heavier helm, or a crown of some sort. So, to turn it into a piece of armor that could take a weapon strike, I again, thickened the armor, and tried to keep a semblance of the original color scheme by coloring it the same wine-red as the rest of the outfit.
Overall, I think this might offer some more protection than the original outfit, and I even managed to put a butterfly on the breastplate, because I thought that was cool, and my sister likes butterflies.

P.S. My wife walked in while I was working on the um, crotch-area of the redraw. She was aware I was working on a redraw of basically, bikini-armor, but she didn’t realize how naked the original girl was. So in surprise she threw a Tonberry plushie at me, and with my catlike reflexes I managed to get hit by it. It landed with a devastating ‘doink’. She then remarked how weird it was that she walked in on me with basically a naked girl on my computer screen, and that I was making an effort to make her less naked.
Thanks for taking the time to do this and to explain the design process and why you made the decisions you did.  I think it’s really cool you thought a lot about what the armor should inform us about the character while you made this.
