elkian: Alright, I’ve been struggling

elkian submitted:

Alright, I’ve been struggling with myself over submitting this or not, but I finally decided to try it.

I’m fixing this lovely image of Tinkerbell(?); it just somehow spoke to me.

I kind of want to give the artist grace because the work IS stylized. But that doesn’t excuse the main issues here. I mean, even the perspective is weird - there’s a near top-down view of the pirate ship, but then a sort-of side view of Tink, suggesting that she’s flying sideways. It could be superimposed, but certainly doesn’t appear to be, so either way it’s a failed objective.

This…pretty much speaks for itself. The good ol’ boob-joint, stripper-heel foot, what is either a very poorly described back of the dress, malformed pelvis, or most likely a butt flounder to compliment the boob flounder. The single visible hand is also a bit odd, and in fact the whole arm and extended leg have strange joints and muscles. And of course, the foot in the butt; not only is it a strange pose, but the leg seems to be missing about half the calf muscle. As for the missing arm, we could pretend it’s hiding behind the wings (which are apparently opaque), but still.

My main problem with the pose is that it’s extremely unnatural - not completely impossible, but not something you would spend effort and energy on while trying to fly.

Here’s a rough and ready redraw of the pose - not going to win any awards, but hopefully a little more sensible and natural. It’s still a strange and awkward pose - leaning forward over the bent leg would make the most sense.

Aaaaaand lastly, I tried to pull this off myself. :I I’m a bit (very) chunky and not very (at all) flexible, so here’s me literally holding the pose. Also, my mom (who helped me with the photos) claims that a gymnast could at least pull off the butt-heel part.

…my knees really hurt. Elkian signing off.
