Annetta: Designing a Character Right I
Designing a Character RightI considered submitting before, but I always changed my mind. This time, I thought you guys might want to see this. It’s from an art book about Mega Man, with the artist commentary at the top. A friend sent this to me, since he knows I stalk your blog, and I thought it was nice that some people treat their characters with the respect and love they deserve, instead of objects to attract customers with.
This is very excellent. :) I wish more comic artists/editors would think like this when it comes to character design too. :\ It’s one thing for Emma Frost to wear what she does, but not Rogue having that giant V of flesh, or every single female character being sexual, thrusting and posing in every panel, or having big butts and boobs when Ed Benes draws them, and being super skinny when Ian Churchill or Michael Turner draws them. Draw the CHARACTER, not whatever generic woman you find sexy.
