Toronto Escher Girls Meet Up Post-Game

Toronto Escher Girls Meet Up Post-Game Update

So today was the meet up!  Only 2 other people showed up, which I blame myself for because of the bad timing (people were probably still at the convention) and probably some people couldn’t find the Starbucks.  We were also kinda in the back and I hope people didn’t come in and not see us.

(ALSO I FORGOT TO TELL PEOPLE WHAT I LOOK LIKE BECAUSE I AM SO USED TO EVERYBODY KNOWING WHAT I LOOK LIKE BECAUSE EVERYBODY TENDS TO RECOGNIZE THE BLONDE ASIAN GIRL AND I FORGOT NOT EVERYBODY HERE MAY KNOW THAT ABOUT ME)

So I’m sorry :(

BUT IT WAS STILL GREAT FUN :D

One of the two that showed up was the lovely and talented Le-Mec who is the redrawer who has done a lot of the recent redraws and combines awesome knowledge of art, with talent and humor!  (He’s the one who did the recent drawing involving Poison Ivy and Harley spying on Catwoman)

The other was Space-Pioneer, who is responsible for one of the most informative and analytical posts on this blog, which was about Carl Barks and how he was able to tell a story and distinguish characters that are identical triplets and artists like Greg Land and Ian Churchill can’t make women that are supposed to look different actually look different.

Anyway, we had a really great discussion about modern comics, the lack of editorial control over how characters should look, the focus on making every panel a sexy pin up rather than telling a story or showing a fight first and foremost, etc etc…  it was super fun and I wish I could have taped it because it was a great roundtable discussion/panel thing :)  Le-Mec really knows art and telling a story through art, and Space-Pioneer knows a lot about older comics and comics history, I just feel proud I could keep up with both of them. :)

I wish more people had come though. :(

I should set up a second meet up now!  Who would be interested in that? :D

Let me know here or at eschergirls@gmail.com (I apologize for not responding to emails before, I thought it was just easier to post the date and time on Escher Girls, but next time I’ll email you each back okay? :) )

Unfortunately, we did not take any pics of the meet up or anything though. :(  People had to leave pretty fast.  So, to make up for it, I’ll just give you a pic of me so people know what I look like and that I’m friendly and won’t bite. :)
