deannambrigman: I found the original

deannambrigman:

I found the original on Eschergirls

The most obvious odd thing about the original was the breasts. If you follow her hips she sort of looks like she is trying to face the wall but the breasts make it look like she is facing the “camera”. Also, because there isn’t a heavily defined line indicating the top of her left breast it looks like it is off center and lopsided. I know the artist was trying to depict her boob as being moved by her hand but it isn’t very successful. Also, her right forearm was very long compared to her left. Her left arm is also odd because if she has her arm straight down then her hand is too high. If you fold your elbow the hand does not go that far above your shoulder. I did make sure to do the pose and take a photo as reference to see where my own hands would fall and how my breasts would interact with my arm.

So in my corrected drawing, I made her whole body face the camera. I kept her original face and her hair. I fixed her arms and tried to make them more natural. I also tried to indicate the weight of her breasts and have them be influenced by her arms. I did give her a more slender figure than what I usually draw. I also decided to move the water line down since it seemed odd when I put it up higher.

I do want to note for any aspiring artists out there, that the final pose is slightly different than the rough sketch I did. After I started filling in the muscles and tightening up the final lineart, I zoomed out and tried to look at it with fresh eyes. I did notice the breasts needed fixing and the arm and hand needed work. I adjusted it. Even after I thought I was done, I let it sit for awhile and came back to it and adjusted it even more. Never be afraid revisit your work and adjust it before moving on to the next step.

Nice redraw!  She looks less snakey and her breasts look a lot better. :)
