panel from Supergirl vol. 5 #1 showing Supergirl and Power Girl flying at each other ready to fight, except both of them are facing toward the audience viewpoint, so neither of them are facing towards each other, Supergirl's leg is pushed up at her knee high in the air to cover her crotch area as we're looking up at both women and would see up her skirt, her body is turned away from Power Girl, and vice versa for Power Girl, their arms are already outstretched but neither are connecting with the other

"So because I really, really love Escher Girls and I really really REALLY hate Ian Churchill, I went back to the genesis of the blog and fixed up a classic Escher fight.

So the things that really leapt out at me were

  • Churchill’s Patented Pipe-Cleaner Arms ™
  • Tiny calves
  • Supergirl’s hip seems to have slipped off and fallen behind
  • Both of them have insanely long, thin waists
  • Power Girl’s ribcage has just been glued onto her midsection like a chesty lollipop
  • I didn’t notice until I started drawing her that PG’s left shoulder is WAY out of place
  • They’re punching at and missing each other’s boobs, looks like?
  • That is a weirdass way to wind up for a punch (although I realised later that possibly it’s just a lower angle shot than I thought, in which case there should be more foreshortening)

So I sketched out where I thought their bodies should be, using photo refs of myself (I was having a bad day for drawing legs and feet, so this is pretty imperfect).

and then I finished it because I like things to be right, and also because there was a whole lot wrong with the clothes…Supergirl’s ‘costume’ in the original is clearly body paint, PG’s cape is swirling all over the place with no real direction and her boots look frankly ridiculous, plus I felt like her belt hanging THAT low down HAD to be uncomfortable and restricting (and also might well fall off when she stands with her legs together). Supergirl’s sleeves looked like they’d get in the way, so I shortened them too."
