So someone wisely pointed out I should submit my redraw to you instead of awkwardly posting it on my own blog. I saw this post the other day and thought I’d try my hand at it.
Trying to figure out what’s happening
The biggest stand out to me was how bony and strange the right hip is, just pushed out all wonky. There’s something deeply troubling about the effect her body give’s and the best way of verbalizing it has been ‘malnourished’, like she’s toppling over or something.
I THINK the artist’s intent was to draw her torso coming forward, but her legs are in such an odd perspective (can we stop that magic crotch gap thing?) the entire picture is sort of baffling.Something else I noticed looking back at it, her right hand (from the viewer) isn’t actually grabbing the handle of the sword??It’s like she’s catching it being thrown at her???
For her clothing I tried to keep her little bodicey thing but with the idea of her wearing like..a shirt under it. Like normal people would, I imagine. And some pants. Maybe cargo pants? Pockets for all her pointy bits? And some like running shoes or something because I am not sure what those stockings are paired with but it can’t be good.
This is a cool re-interpretation of Avengelyne. :) I like the pose you gave her.
I’ve actually gotten a LOT of people submitting their own versions of this cover and they’re all really interesting with different ideas and interpretations. I’ll post them slowly throughout the next couple weeks.
Would people be interested in turning this into a contest? There’d probably be prizes.
